Following are some of the more important settings you can set for your list. You must be a list admin to change these settings. If you are not able to get to these settings, please see HelpDesk for assistance.
Not all settings are described below, only the ones which we typically use and of which you should be aware. If you have questions about other settings, please contact HelpDesk.
Message Wrapping
Prepend to the beginning of every message (Text message header):
Append to end of every message (Text message footer):
Prepend to beginning of every message (HTML message header):
Append to end of every message (HTML message footer):
These options allow you to add headers and footers to every message sent through the list. For example, you might want to include the AFBF letterhead at the beginning of every message. Or you might want to include a link to unsubscribe from the list in the footer.
By default, some of these options are filled. However, since we mostly send through Outlook it is easier to make the message look how we want there instead of playing around with these options. Also, since many of our lists are based on roles, the recipients should not have the option of unsubscribing, i.e. if you are the state coordinator for the list's purpose, then you need to get the info whether you want to nor not.
Security
Reject email submissions: no
If this is set to yes, then it will reject all messages sent from Outlook, and you will be forced to log in to the ListManager site and create an ugly looking message in there. So don't change this option.
Only admins can send: yes
The default for this is yes. This supports the normal case where we want to send out information to people, and they can respond back to the individual sender, but not to the whole group.
Alternatively, this can be set to no, which is useful for discussion groups where you want list members to be able to respond back to everyone.
Approval
Is list moderated: not moderated - messages never need approval
Moderation means that when anyone sends a message, the system will hold it until a list admin approves the message to go out. Our workflow for approving outgoing messages exists outside the ListManager system, so this should usually be set to not moderated. If you have questions about this, please see the HelpDesk.
Header Rewrites
From:
You can change who the message appears to be from. For example, you can say "AFBF Important Committee." Then, regardless of who actually sends to the list, it will show up as from AFBF Important Committee. For this reason, it is recommended you do not put an individual's address in here. If you put Bob Stallman in here, anyone would be able to send on his behalf regardless of their sending rights in Exchange (Outlook). So that could significantly shorten your Farm Bureau career.
The default is to leave this blank, so each message will appear to be from however it looks in Outlook. So if you send as yourself, the message will be from you. If you send On Behalf Of someone else, it will appear on behalf of that person.
Reply To: nochange
By default replies will go back to the sender. However, you can also change this to be another address. For example, if we had a list for Taste of the States invitations, we might change the Reply To to be rsvp@fb.org.
To: %%nameemail%%
You can also change to whom the email is addresses. The above gobblygook will display the person's name and email, e.g. HelpDesk Support <helpdesk@fb.org>. Alternatively, Executive Newswatch shows up as To: Executive-News-Watch Listserv.
